Probe underway after fatality at Austrian wind farm
Investigations are underway in Austria after a fatal accident today during installation of Enercon turbines at the Potzneusiedl wind farm in Burgenland. A spokesman for Enercon confirmed local news reports that an employee of an unnamed service provider fell about 100 metres inside a tower during turbine installation. He added that the “immediately alerted rescue forces could only determine the death of the man on the construction site”. Wind turbine burns in Puster Valley

Dichter Qualm: Windrad plötzlich in Flammen
Video: Feuerwehr Einsatz der Feuerwehr am Montag im burgenländischen Kittsee: Ein Windrad war plötzlich in Brand geraten, rasch bildete sich eine dichte, schwarze Rauchsäule, die bereits von Weitem zu sehen war. Austria’s energy regulator says climate protection goals hard to reach
Austria may find it tough to achieve its goal of producing as much energy from renewable resources as it consumes by 2030 due to public opposition to new dams and other projects that disturb nature, the head of energy regulator e-Control said. The 2030 target is part of a climate and energy strategy, which the coalition government’s conservative and far-right parties adopted last month. Fear of stranded wind projects in Austria as expansion slows
A steady decline in wind power additions has continued in Austria in 2016, when only 228MW were installed, down from 323MW a year earlier and 405MW in 2014, leading to increased concern about stranded assets and intensified calls for a reform of the renewables support legislation.
