Governor’s Offshore Wind Energy Panel Releases Interim Report
(TRENTON) – The Blue Ribbon Panel on Development of Wind Turbine Facilities in Coastal Waters today announced their interim report is publicly available and a public meeting has been scheduled to solicit feedback on the report. Acting Governor Richard J. Codey established the Blue Ribbon Panel by executive order last December. The panel is charged with studying the costs and benefits of developing offshore wind turbines. The Blue Ribbon Panel on Development of Wind Turbine Facilities in Coastal Waters released an interim report that is a precursor to a final report expected in March. While advocates on opposing sides of the issue took away different things from the report, it is likely to re-ignite the debate over whether giant wind turbines are appropriate off Jersey’s coast. Peru officials have approved a one-year moratorium
PERU — Peru officials have approved a one-year moratorium on allowing windmills to be constructed within town limits. Town Council members unanimously approved the ban, citing the need to study the issue before making any more-permanent zoning decisions. Complete story »
Vermont town to vote on divisive wind project
The town of Sheffield will gauge public opinion on a controversial wind project Thursday with a town meeting and vote on the proposal. The vote, requested by group of citizens opposed to the wind farm in the small Northeast Kingdom town, will be advisory only. The state Public Service Board has authority over the project. Wind farm developer challenges moratorium – Company claims county is stalling its wind farm study
MANITOWOC — A Wisconsin wind farm developer has filed a claim against Manitowoc County alleging its 12-month moratorium on wind farms is illegal. Emerging Energies LLP of Hubertus alleges the moratorium, issued May 17, has damaged the company's plans to construct seven large-scale, industrial wind turbines around the village of Mishicot. Wind energy controversy grows
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," Dave Groberg, project developer for Invenergy Wind LLC told 60 members of Mountain Communities for Responsible Energy (MCRE) Tuesday at Williamsburg’s community center. "While many people find wind turbines graceful and attractive, others disagree." Wind farm ‘maps’ generate new row
The charity has superimposed the plans onto a map of the Scottish mainland to highlight the scale of the proposals. The charity said the 234-turbine development would have an unprecedented impact on hundreds of rare birds.
