Columbiana County bans big solar, wind farms in four townships, ban sought in seven more communities
The Columbiana County Commissioners have approved a ban on big solar and wind farms in four townships and agreed to hold a public hearing on extending the prohibition to seven more townships. Commissioners on Wednesday voted to prohibit construction of what they call “economically significant” wind farms, large wind farms and large solar facilities in the unincorporated areas of Fairfield, Franklin, Perry, and West Townships. Albany – Senator George Borrello heralded a recently released report by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) on the feasibility of placing wind turbines in the Great Lakes. Concerns over wind turbines continue despite no new applications

Ohio wind ruling starts storm of opposition
During a meeting inside the Dunkirk Lighthouse in May 2019, volunteers learned of a project that could forever change the landscape of Lake Erie while offering the promise of $500 in revenue monthly. Mekker and McRae in their talk spoke about the World Health Organization 2009 report on noise guidelines, and that Health Canada describes noise annoyance as an adverse human health effect. They said studies and data show that for chronically strong annoyance, a causal chain exists – sleep disturbance, sleep deprivation, cascading and deleterious adverse health outcomes, and increased morbidity. “Simply put, the noise which doesn’t stop unless the turbines stop, is an annoyance (leading to serious issues),’’ Mekker said.
