Just say ‘no’ to wind project
NEEDLES – If the second two meetings went like the first two, support for the Crescent Peak Wind project is scarce. A total of four scoping meetings were held April 9-12 in Searchlight, Needles, Las Vegas and Henderson as part of the environmental impact statement process. Crescent Peak Renewables, LLC., submitted an application to the Bureau of Land Management requesting authorization to construct, operate, maintain and terminate an up to 500 megawatt wind energy generation facility in November 2015. Opposition to wind farm project expressed
As part of its review process to determine whether to approve an application to allow construction of wind turbines on 32,000 acres of public land in Nevada adjacent to the California border just west of Searchlight, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) conducted a series of scoping meetings to allow public input. At a recent meeting in Las Vegas a half dozen speakers largely expressed support for renewable energy but not on the proposed site. According to a 2012 filing . . . Complete story »
Feedback negative for proposed windfarm
NEEDLES – Two scoping meetings in and the feedback remained negative regarding a proposed wind farm by Crescent Peak Renewables, LLC. Meetings were held in Searchlight and Needles, April 9 and 10 respectively. Two additional meetings were held April 11 and 12, in Las Vegas and Henderson respectively. In November 2015, Crescent Peak Renewables, LLC, submitted an application to the Bureau of Land Management requesting authorization to construct, operate, maintain and terminate an up to 500-megawatt wind energy generation facility. Searchlight wind project would be a travesty for the area
I read where they want to build the Crescent Peak Wind Project near Paiute Valley west of Searchlight. This would be a travesty. The location, as described by the Review-Journal’s Henry Brean on March 25, could not be worse when you consider the natural beauty and expanse of one of the largest Joshua tree forests in the United States. Documentation of the slow growth of Joshua trees exists in the scientific literature, indicating that seedlings and older trees grow at . . . Complete story »
Searchlight residents blast proposed wind turbine project
SEARCHLIGHT – A proposed wind project was hit with a gale of opposition Monday, as the Bureau of Land Management hosted the first of four meetings on the massive renewable energy project. About 50 people in this town of about 400 residents turned out to voice their displeasure with the project, which could bring more than 200 wind turbines, each the height of a skyscraper, to the hills 10 miles to the west. Sweden-based energy company Eolus wants to build its . . . Complete story »
Yes to clean energy, but no to this site
Want to know why renewable energy remains controversial, despite widespread agreement that it is vital for our future? The answer is location, location, location. Look no further than the beautiful Mojave Desert. Here lies some of the best conservation lands and recreational opportunities in the Silver State. The lands include the eastern portion of the world’s largest Joshua Tree forest, the densest concentration of bald and golden eagles in the state, and iconic backcountry trails and unpaved roads for exploration. . . . BLM to hold public meetings on proposed wind farm near Searchlight
The Bureau of Land Management will hold a series of public scoping meetings next month on a proposed wind farm that could bring as many as 220 skyscraper-sized turbines to the desert 10 miles west of Searchlight. The Crescent Peak Wind Energy Project would be built in phases along a 22-mile stretch of the Nevada-California border, with turbines at least 400 feet tall clustered on more than 32,500 acres of public land directly adjacent to Mojave National Preserve, Castle Mountains . . . Wind energy plan raises environmentalists’ ire
Opposition to a new “clean” energy project near Searchlight is coming from an unlikely source – environmentalists. As the Review-Journal’s Henry Brean reports, a Swedish company wants to put up to 220 wind turbines along a 22-mile swatch of land west of Searchlight. The turbines would be at least 410 feet tall. The Bureau of Land Management is currently conducting an environmental review. Politicians frequently tell the public that wind energy is environmentally friendly. Not this project, claim more than a . . . Complete story »
Latest wind turbine project is a bad idea
Less than a year after backers of a proposed wind turbine farm near Searchlight threw in the towel after failing to convince a federal judge their Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was accurate, an even bigger project just 10 miles to the west has started the environmental review process. A week ago a notice was published in the Federal Register by the Bureau of Land Management initiating a 90-day public comment period for the proposed Crescent Peak Renewables wind farm that . . . BLM mulls massive Nev. project on eagle, desert tortoise concerns
The Bureau of Land Management is launching a detailed analysis of a massive proposed wind power project near the site of a contentious Obama-era project that a federal judge rejected two years ago due to “analytical gaps” in BLM’s evaluation. The Crescent Peak Wind Project proposed to be built on 32,531 acres of public lands 10 miles west of Searchlight, Nev., on the California border would string together hundreds of wind turbines, more than 400 feet tall, in an area . . .
