DEKALB COUNTY, Mo. – Officials say no one was injured when a crane collapsed during construction on the Osborn Wind Energy Center Monday morning.
The incident happened on J Highway, a few miles north of Highway 36.
According to NextEra Energy, the crane fell to its side while installing a turbine rotor. The rotor, which includes the turbine’s three blades, also fell to the ground and sustained damage.
The company says incidents like the crane collapse are rare. The cause of the collapse is under investigation.
Following the incident, the construction manager temporarily halted all activity on the construction site. A representative for NextEra energy says safety protocols are being reinforced with workers.
