Turbine plan rejected as ‘foreign structure’ in AONB

Plans for two wind turbines in Brookenby have been turned down by West Lindsey District Council.
Melvyn Cross of Total Reclaims Ltd sought to erect two 60kW wind turbines with a 22m hub height and 34m tip height on the western edge of Binbrook Technical Park.
The proposal was opposed by nearby residents and parish councils who expressed concerns over noise, visual amenity, the site was too near houses and would damage bird-life.
The Ministry of Defence withdrew objections the turbines would interfere with air defence radar at Staxton Wold, but the National Air Traffic Services said they would impact on the Claxby Radar and London Area Control centre.
Natural England and East Lindsey District Council also said the turbines would spoil the landscape in a part of the wolds that is an Outstanding Area of Natural Beauty.
A council report concluded: “The proposal will introduce two large vertical and moving structures that would introduce a foreign structure into a landscape which is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The turbines would be a constant and defining element within the nearby and surrounding landscape that would have a detrimental visual impact on the views and setting of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty from several vantage points including public rights of way.”
It also warned of risks to radar and the application had insufficient information concerning its impact on heritage assets, protected species and their habitats.
