Worker crushed at Thorold windmill plant

A worker at a windmill company in Thorold was taken to hospital Saturday night after being crushed.
Emergency services were called to TSP Canada Towers at 100 Hayes Rd. at 7 p.m.
Niagara Regional Police said the man, whose name or age has not been released, was crushed between two 48-tonne windmill towers.
The worker was airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital and was reportedly stable in hospital early Sunday.
Police said the investigation was turned over to the Ministry of Labour. A Ministry of Labour spokeswoman said Sunday the investigation was ongoing and she could provide no other details.
TSP Canada Towers opened its Thorold plant in the former Dana factory in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 25, 2012. It produces wind towers to support turbines from 50 KW to 5MW.
The company has five factories in China and the Thorold plant is its first outside the country. TSP invested $25 million into the plant to serve customers in North America and fill international orders for onshore wind farming.
In November, the company received its first order of 58 wind towers.
This past April, the company encouraged young Niagara workers to send resumes for 150 potential positions at the plant as it geared up for its first phase of production.
