There may be better and healthier ways to be green than a $6 million windmill. I am thinking of a way to reduce emissions, conserve oil, build community and provide exercise in a safe and environmentally friendly manner. What does all that? The answer is more sidewalks for the citizens of Northborough.
If there were more sidewalks we could safely get our exercise without dodging oncoming traffic on our narrow streets. Some of us could walk to the beautiful new library instead of driving. During our walks we might meet others and build community.
Sidewalks last a long time. They do not require very much maintenance. They don’t burst into flames. They work whether or not it is windy. If we use our stashed away Community Preservation Taxes, new sidewalks won’t cost us future taxes.
So have a nice day. Take a walk. Stop the windmill.
Merry Christmas.
