Study: Wind project boon to taxpayers Only handful of jobs would be created

Proposed wind projects in Prospect and Colebrook could provide a boon to local taxpayers, but would generate only a handful of jobs, according to an economic impact study by the sponsor of the projects.

The two proposals by BNE Energy Inc. of West Hartford would be the first commercial wind farms to be built in Connecticut. Petitions are pending before the Connecticut Siting Council, which has jurisdiction over the projects.

If approved, two wind turbines would be erected in Prospect, and six in Colebrook.

BNE has filed reams of studies and testimony with the siting council in support of its petitions. Opponents – including individual residents and local groups that organized in opposition to the projects – have submitted lengthy testimony, illustrating the potential harm the huge towers would inflict on neighborhoods.
