Wind turbine proposals need some perspective
“Two flags fly above my land that really sum up how I feel. One is the colors that fly high and proud the red the white the blue the other ones got a rattle snake with a simple statement made Don’t Tread on Me is what it says and I’ll take that to my grave because this is me I’m proud to be American and strong in my beliefs. And I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again cause . . . Complete story »
EMC awarded grant to explore using wind turbines
HOPKINTON — EMC Corp. has won a $44,000 state grant to study whether it’s feasible for the company to place two wind turbines on its private South Street sewage treatment plant. The money was awarded today by the quasi-public Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, part of $700,000 in grants for seven wind projects proposed by companies, towns, schools and a non-profit ski area. EMC plans to work with Southborough consultant Beals and Thomas to erect a 50-meter testing tower to gauge . . . Complete story »
Wind and wave energies are not renewable after all
Build enough wind farms to replace fossil fuels and we could do as much damage to the climate as greenhouse global warming. WITNESS a howling gale or an ocean storm, and it’s hard to believe that humans could make a dent in the awesome natural forces that created them. Yet that is the provocative suggestion of one physicist who has done the sums. He concludes that it is a mistake to assume that energy sources like wind and waves are . . . Complete story »

COLEBROOK—The latest chapter in the saga of wind power in Connecticut involves a motion to declare a mistrial on the hearings for all three petitions to install wind towers in the state. Long Beach Township ordinance effectively eliminates windmills
LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP – The Township Board of Commissioners is preparing to introduce an ordinance that would regulate energy-generating windmills in the township. The ordinance, which is expected to be introduced during the board’s meeting Friday, would require that a windmill be put on sites that are greater than two acres, said Mayor Joseph Mancini. “Right now, we don’t have anything on the books regarding the windmills,” Mancini said during the board’s caucus meeting Tuesday morning. “There are a variety of . . . Frankfort gives wind developer cold shoulder
Frankfort – An article on the warrant at Frankfort’s annual town meeting Friday, March 25, seeking the town’s support – in spirit, not in cash – for a proposed multi-turbine wind energy project atop Mount Waldo didn’t get much backing from the residents in attendance. Article 8 would have authorized selectmen to issue a resolution in support of the proposed project qualifying for a state-administered renewable energy program. As soon as the article was read aloud by moderator Norris Staples, a motion was . . . Complete story »

Parques eólicos, amenaza de aves
Wind energy facilities threaten birds The Spanish Ornithological Society has warned that the Castilla–La Mancha wind energy plan is “a danger” to biodiversity. Wind turbines and their power lines cause the death of 1.3 million birds per years, says SEO/BirdLife. No siempre es cierto que el fin justifique los medios, pero en este caso se cumple aquello de que se viste un santo para desvestir a otro. Y es que si bien las energías renovables evitan la proliferación de nucleares . . . Complete story »
Wind farms still issue in Glenmore, Morrison
Wind farms remain a campaign issue in two southern Brown County towns, despite a company’s recent decision to cancel plans for 100 wind turbines in Morrison, Glenmore and other nearby communities. Invenergy LLC said it would not pursue permits for a wind farm in the area, but campaign signs related to wind energy continue to dot the landscape, and candidates say they still need to be prepared with future proposals that could affect residents’ quality of life. “We have to . . . Google’s wind-power project draws opposition
A Google-backed effort to build a $5 billion undersea power line supporting wind energy from New Jersey to Virginia faces opposition from state officials and utilities. The Maryland Public Service Commission and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association are among those questioning Atlantic Wind Connection’s request that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approve incentives to build the project, including a guaranteed 13.58 percent return on equity for its development. “They want consumers to pay for them to go through the . . .
