The disgraceful capture of the Queensland conservation movement by billionaire renewables proponents is now apparent for all to see

These so-called conservation groups do not stand for the protection of wild places or threatened species. Instead, they stand for industry, specifically green energy (and consequently gas, increased rare earth mining, coal exports to create the infrastructure). Complete story »

Plans for Swarclett wind turbines prompt ‘misery and strife’ warning

Plans for a new Caithness wind farm have prompted a national campaigner to warn of the “misery and strife” that can arise when communities become divided over renewable energy developments. Aileen Jackson, of Scotland Against Spin, highlighted the “striking” similarities between the proposed Swarclett Wind Farm at Bowertower and Neilston Wind Farm in East Renfrewshire. Opponents of the two-turbine Swarclett scheme claim support has been targeted in Castletown, several miles away from the wind farm site. Bowertower resident Tony Shaw, . . . Complete story »

Pressure mounts against French wind farm project near Belgian coast

De Panne, Koksijde and Nieuwpoort are the latest communes on the Belgian coast to oppose a French government project to build an offshore wind farm near Dunkirk. The proposal includes turbines almost as high as the Eiffel Tower: 300 metres above sea level (the Paris icon is 330m). The French government plans to build the 50 km2 park of 46 wind turbines 10km off the Dunkirk coastline, 11.4km from the Belgian seaside resorts opposing the project. The farm should produce . . . Fylde Coast wind farm plans could tear through businesses, land and affect schools, objectors say

Across the Fylde Coast, residents, business owners and farmers are uniting on one very contentious issue. Two offshore wind farms are set to be positioned in the Irish Sea, with a series of cables connecting them to an existing electricity substation in Penwortham. Whilst the idea is good in theory, to build on green energy, the idea in action is a very different matter. Residents of the Fylde are strongly opposing the plans, dubbed the Morgan and Morecambe Offshore Wind . . . Complete story »

Energy giant pays off fisherman blocking Wicklow wind farm

A fisherman from Co Wicklow has settled with an offshore wind developer in a landmark case expected to send waves through a renewable energy industry grappling with mounting legal challenges. Last May, Ivan Toole, whose fishing company operates out of Greystones, brought a judicial review on environmental grounds against the minister of state with responsibility for planning and local government over the granting of a foreshore licence to RWE, a German energy group and notice party in the case. TransAlta scraps wind farm project as energy market changes loom for Alberta

TransAlta, one of Alberta’s largest power generators, has cancelled a proposed wind farm development and is putting a hold on three other power projects, citing provincial rule changes and a lack of certainty in the market. In February, Alberta’s government announced new rules on the development of renewable power in the province. They imposed a new 35-kilometre buffer zone around areas deemed “pristine viewscapes.” Calgary-based TransAlta said those rules, coupled with a lack of clarity around the future of renewable . . .
