Windfarm on hold over bird highway row
A wind-farm project on the top of an Austrian mountain plateau has not been switched on over fears that it is in the middle of a key bird migration route and that the spinning blades could lead to thousands of bird deaths. Austrian wind farm on Peca raises questions in Slovenia

Burgenland to get worlds largest wind turbines
The world’s largest wind turbine power plants are to be built in Potzneusiedl in northern Burgenland. In an effort to cover Burgenland’s electricity demand solely by renewable energy by 2013, Austrian Wind Power (AWP), a subsidiary to the stately Burgenland energy provider BEWAG, is erecting the two wind turbines that can together provide more than 8,000 homes with electricity. Austrians to pump €400m into Polish wind farms
Polska Sila Wiatru and Warminska Sila Wiatru, whose shareholders are the Austrian firms Austrian Wind Power, Wienstrom and Raiffeisen bank, have begun assembling a number of wind farms in Mazury. The investment will require estimated outlays of around €400m. This year construction work will begin on a 60 MW farm near Sepopol (cost €97m) and an 80 MW farm near Gorowo Ilaweckie (€120m).
