Libertyville wind turbine moratorium gets fourth extension
Village trustees, at the recommendation of their planning staff, have extended the moratorium on the construction, installation and operation of wind turbines for a fourth six-month extension. The original moratorium was initiated in August 2009. Six-month extensions were made by the board in February and August 2010, and February 2011. The new postponement expires in August 2011, or sooner if the board adopts a new ordinance. On Tuesday night, trustees said the latest extension was necessary because the Plan Commission . . . Residents want stricter wind turbine ordinance
Residents who live near a wind turbine on Aldridge Electric Inc., 844 East Rockland Road, have been fighting for more than a year to restore peace in their lives. At Monday’s Plan Commission meetings, residents and members of the Citizens for the Protection of Libertyville (CFPL) offered input on a proposed zoning code change that would regulate future use of wind turbines in the village. “The key phrase or whatever you guys have left out of what lake county looked . . . Resident says wind turbine noises are driving her mad
What goes thump, buzz and whoosh in the night? A 150-foot tall wind turbine, according to several Libertyville residents. “It hums and buzzes. It thumps and screeches when they put the brakes on it. You can’t stop it,” said Laurie Renz of the 800 block of East Rockland Road. “It makes you mad – not angry, mad insane. It drives you insane.” Renz and several other residents attended Monday’s Village of Libertyville plan commission meeting to complain about the constant sounds . . . Complete story »
County holds off on some wind energy regulations, but says no to utility-scale turbines
Although at least two area villages have set wind turbine regulations in the past few months and the Lake County Board has agreed to disallow utility-scale turbines, the county is still mulling small-scale regulations. The board voted recently to prohibit large wind farms in unincorporated areas, following standards that Gurnee and Grayslake have already set with their regulations. Gurnee’s wind-energy ordinance has been in effect since November, and the Grayslake Village Board is expected to officially pass that town’s wind . . . Complete story »
Size of wind turbines prompts concern among board members
Concern over the potential of large wind turbines up to 400 feet tall is causing some Lake County Board members to rethink the county’s proposed new wind ordinance. County Board members heard a presentation from senior planner David Husemoller regarding the county’s proposed wind ordinance at a committee of the whole meeting last week at the Central Permit Facility in Libertyville. The proposed ordinance sets standards for the siting of small and large wind towers in unincorporated areas of the . . . Complete story »
County eyes split laws for large, small wind turbines
After struggling with the controversial issue of wind energy regulations for the past two years, Lake County Board members may separate regulations for large wind farm proposals and smaller turbine requests from homeowners, schools and businesses. Board member Bonnie Thomson Carter of Ingleside said she will make a motion at February’s County Board meeting to vote separately on the two aspects of the county’s proposed regulations for unincorporated areas. With several board members leaning against approval of larger turbine farms . . . Complete story »
Village extends moratorium on wind turbines
Wind power in Libertyville has been dealt another blow as the village has extended a moratorium on new wind turbines in the village. The Village Board voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve a 180-day extension of a moratorium relating to the construction, installation and operation of wind turbines in the village. Village officials say the extension of the moratorium will give them more time to consider ordinance changes relating to wind energy facilities in the village. The moratorium was originally . . . Libertyville wind turbine moratorium extended
Village trustees have extended their moratorium on the construction, installation and operation of wind turbines for another six-months. It is the board’s third six-month extension in resolving the issue. The first, initiated in August 2009, was renewed for another six months in February 2010. This third renewal is good until February 2011. John Spoden, director of community development, told the board Tuesday night the renewal was necessary since the Wind Energy Task Force of Lake County continues its work in . . . Complete story »
