The Town of Spafford will be holding a public hearing Thursday, July 10, to discuss the passing of a local law to permit the construction of wind turbines, according to an announcement of a public hearing and board meeting posted on the Town of Spafford Web site.
The hearing will immediately follow the regular monthly board meeting, held at 7 p.m. in the Spafford Town Hall, 1984 Route 174. It will also cover a second proposal on the reimbursement of professional services.
Copies of the two proposed local laws are available at the Spafford town clerk’s office as well as on the town of Spafford Web site, townofspafford.com
“I think this represents a true conflict of ideals – becoming environmentally independent versus the cost of changing the scenic landscape of the Finger Lakes.”Holland Gregg, Skaneateles resident and president of Citizens to Preserve the Character of Skaneateles said. “CPCS has not formulated a position on this, although we are all for energy independence and we believe wind power should be encouraged. Balancing wind energy technology with scenic vista planning needs to be seriously addressed in the Finger Lakes.”
Some residents are concerned the construction could have an impact on the scenic vistas, particularly for residents on the west side of Skaneateles Lake.
