Representative Chris Jacobs is pushing new legislation against wind turbines in Lake Erie.
The legislation would keep developers from getting federal tax credits if they build wind farms in the Great Lakes.
Jacobs says without these credits, it would be impossible for the projects to function. He says the Great Lakes are an economic driver for the region and must be preserved.
“Millions of people rely on our Great Lakes for clean drinking water,” Jacobs said. “Additionally, construction and operation of these wind turbines threaten the environment and wildlife populations of fish and birds around the lakes. Recreation, tourism, sport and commercial fishing all rely on a healthy Great Lakes.”
Jacobs wants more studies to be done before any projects begin.
