Wind farm plan appealed

Credit:  The Nenagh Guardian | Tuesday, 12th March, 2019 | www.nenaghguardian.ie ~~

An Bord Pleanála is to assess a plan to facilitate construction of a wind farm at Upperchurch.

Tipperary Co Council last month refused planning permission to Ecopower Development Ltd for a development that would facilitate the construction and operation of the already consented (but not built) Upperchurch Windfarm. The plan involved almost 18km of internal windfarm cabling, haul route works to facilitate the haulage of turbine components, an 18m telecoms relay pole, and realigned windfarm roads, among other works.

Protection of the Hen Harrier bird species was cited by the council as a key factor in refusing planning permission for the proposal. Ecopower Developments has since appealed the council’s decision to An Bord Pleanála; a decision on the case is due by June 11th.
