Sparks fly at township meeting over wind turbines

Residents from a Mid-Michigan town are continuing their fight against wind turbines coming to their community.
Sparks flew the last time Monitor Township residents met to discuss the possibility of turbines being built nearby. This time it was no different.
At Tuesday’s meeting, multiple residents asked Commissioner Terry Miller to abstain from voting in the future regarding wind turbines.
“You will remove yourself from voting. You will remove yourself from voting right now,” one resident said.
“Terry, I don’t really have anything against you, but a ginormous amount of people are asking you to resign or abstain. I find it interesting that you just don’t do that peacefully. Thank you,” another resident said.
Some say Miller has made biased comments in the past.
“He’s made some comments in some townships, Beaver Township meeting as an elected official of Monitor Township saying that they’re gonna put wind turbines in Monitor Township and that was before there was a vote,” said Brandon Krause, resident.
Miller tried to calm the crowd, but they weren’t having it.
Miller’s wife got up to speak and defended him.
“My husband Terry Miller served two terms,” she said. “He’s an honest environmental advocate that’s done nothing but speak for natural resources. He’s never made a dime as an environmental advocate.”
Krause just had one request for the board.
“Just do what’s right. Just listen to your constituents, listen to the people. They’re the ones who ultimately want to see this township succeed. So listen to what they have to say,” Krause said.
There was not a vote on the ordinance at Tuesday’s meeting.
