Fulton, North Shade townships vote to allow development of wind projects

Wind-related development projects can be created in Fulton and North Shade townships.
Both townships voted earlier this week to reject an amendment that would have precluded wind-related development projects in those areas, as reported by Gratiot County Administrator Tracey Cordes during the county board’s meeting Tuesday in Ithaca.
Fulton Township’s board voted 3-2 at its board meeting Tuesday in favor of rejecting the amendment, said Fulton Township Supervisor Denise Rossman on Wednesday.
Voting “yes” to rejecting the amendment were clerk Lorene Miller, trustee Jeremiah “Jay” Childers, and trustee Phil Foster. Voting “no” to rejecting the amendment were Rossman, and treasurer Diane Conroy-Kellogg.
Also, on Monday the North Shade Township Planning Commission voted 4-0 to not revise the township’s zoning ordinance for wind energy, according to township planning commission chair Terry Donohue.
In June, Consumers Energy announced plans to build up to 75 wind turbines in North Shade and New Haven townships.
