Ongoing litigious issues continue to plague movement on the authority’s planned wind energy project, as some in Carbon County’s Penn Forest Township seek to stop the construction of giant electricity-generating turbines over the rural landscape.
An important testimony scheduled for a zoning hearing board meeting April 24 never happened, as it bogged down in three and a half hours of cross examination. Authority Executive Director Stephen Repasch said the testimony will (theoretically) be given at the May 22 meeting.
Meanwhile, upcoming timbering operations will require extra work as the state attorney general has made regulating such a top priority recently, Repasch said. He said new proposals caught him by surprise and will require some time to figure out. “It’s very convoluted,” he said.
But safeguarding those timberlands is still important, and the special police have hired three new part time officers to help monitor the authority’s vast wild properties. Repasch said their positions will soon become official at a local county courthouse. “They get sworn in down here and sworn out in Penn Forest Township,” he laughed.
The next meeting is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. June 14 at city hall.
