Two villagers who have been tirelessly campaigning against the construction of wind farm infrastructure have been recognised for their efforts.
The parish council in Necton, near Swaffham, held their Community Spirit Awards ceremony during a meeting on April 25 and among the winners were Tony and Jenny Smedley, the couple behind a campaign group called Necton Substation Action Group.
They were nominated by people in the community for their campaign against Vattenfall’s plans to build a substation near their homes. Breckland councillor Nigel Wilkin called it a “David and Goliath” situation.
Mr Wilkin presented the pair with the award and said they had always strived for truth and to keep the community “informed and educated”.
Mrs Smedley said: “We would like to thank all the residents who nominated us and assure them the fight against this massive company goes on with their help,” she said.
