Christian Coalition wrong to support wind farms

Credit:  Pharos-Tribune | March 5, 2018 | www.pharostribune.com ~~

As a Christian who supports the Ten Commandments, I take issue with the letter purporting to speak on behalf of a “Christian Coalition.”

We are taught to love our neighbor as ourselves; do not covet your neighbor’s property and do not bear false witness.

In a letter published recently in the Pharos-Tribune (“Wind Energy aligns with conservative Hoosier values,” Thursday, March 1), the writer claimed wind energy would make America energy independent. Wind generates electricity. We do not use oil for the generation of electrical power. Wind kills bats that eat pests. Boston University research estimates the loss of bats from wind will cost farmers $72 per crop acre in additional pesticide expense.

Energy generated in Indiana feeds into the MISO transmission system and is sent to 15 states from Montana to Mississippi. It does not stay in Indiana.

Moreover, wind energy has proven to be one of the least effective means of carbon reduction and it is widely known that almost no permanent jobs are created after the construction crews are gone.

Children of farmers do not want to come home to live and work on the farm if it means living in the middle of an industrial power plant. The effects of turbines sited too close to neighboring properties trespass with noise and moving shadows onto their neighbor’s land thereby devaluing it and in some cases destroying its use.

The agenda of the “Christian Coalition” must be to advocate for industrial wind. Sad to see that perhaps they have fallen prey to so much bad information.

In a take on Luke 23:34, “Father forgive them for they know not what they say.”
