Judge to hear oral arguments in WECS ordinance case
A coalition of local citizens will get their day in court come December, although it may not end in a closed case. Petitioners from Middletown, Straughn, New Castle, Shirley, Spiceland, Mooreland, Sulphur Springs and Hagerstown asked a Henry County court in May to review the county’s 2009 Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) ordinance. Big Blue River Wind Farm, LLC, one of the named “respondents” of the judicial review request, has argued that this isn’t the right way to address any . . . Complete story »
New P.E.I. wind farm delayed; New bylaw prompts more wind regime tests, says P.E.I. Energy Corporation
The P.E.I. Energy Corporation is pushing back its new wind farm project to 2020. Initially, the province had hoped to build the 30-megawatt development at East Point by 2019. But Heather MacLeod, the manager of energy assets for P.E.I. MacLeod said they’re retesting the wind regime within the smaller area at East Point, and also . . . Complete story »

As the gigantic wind-turbine components are rumbling across the Tablelands to Mount Emerald, another wind farm is moving into its community engagement phase. The company held an open day at Ravenshoe’s QCWA hall last week. Neoen Australia’s head of wind development Garth Heron said the project site about 6km northeast of Ravenshoe covered an area . . . Carsphairn wind turbine appeal lodged
An appeal has been lodged against the refusal of plan for a 10-turbine wind farm in Galloway. The Mountaineering Council of Scotland raised concerns the Longburn project would form a “ring of steel” around Cairnsmore of Carsphairn. Dumfries and Galloway Council’s planning committee voted seven to five to reject the scheme. Developers have appealed against that decision, arguing that its impact had been “significantly overstated”. Complete story »

Ende der Förderung – Alte Windräder müssen bald vom Netz
[End of subsidies: Old wind turbines will have to go offline] Die Windkraft ist der wichtigste Baustein für die Energiewende – doch das Auslaufen der Förderung bedroht unzählige Windräder. . . Vermont lawmakers impose stricter sound limits for wind turbines
Vermont lawmakers have imposed stricter noise limits for wind turbines in order to allay public health concerns. The state’s eight-member Legislative Committee on Administrative Rules gave final approval Oct. 26 of a rule issued by the Vermont Public Service Board in May. Unpopular among both wind energy supporters and opponents, the rule restricts the sound of wind turbines on wind farms that apply for a certificate of public good. As measured 100 feet from a neighboring landowner, the new rule . . . Complete story »
‘Outsiders’ can remind us of our principles
I recently traveled to an event at Rockbridge Trout Farm. I was fortunate to have friends living nearby to stay with. While there, I met their niece. She had just been hired at Rockbridge as a rental property manager. She expressed not only her surprise in being hired at the end of the tourist season, but also how impressed she was with the business and how well they cared for their employees. The business has been developed over several generations, . . . Complete story »
