Developers appeal to Scottish Government after plans for Caithness windfarm rejected by council

Credit:  By Jamie McKenzie | The Press and Journal | February 10, 2017 | www.pressandjournal.co.uk ~~

A renewable energy developer is appealing to the Scottish Government over a decision by Highland Council to refuse their plans to build 12 wind turbines in Caithness.

Cogle Moss Renewables want to build the 328ft towers at Watten, north-west of Wick, which would produce a maximum of 36MW of electricity.

A planning application was submitted in July 2015 which received 26 objections and two supporting representations.

Councillors refused the application in January on the basis the development would be significantly detrimental to the moorland landscape and would have a significant visual impact on drivers on nearby roads.

A planning appeal notice was received by the Scottish Government’s planning and environmental appeals decision on February 8.

No further details have been submitted with the appeal notice at this stage.
