An overturned wind turbine lorry is completely blocking the A713 Castle Douglas to Ayr road.
The Daf lorry towing turbine parts crashed at around 10.45pm last night, partly demolishing a bridge.
The vehicle was part of a convoy being escorted to the Brockloch Windfarm site at Carsphairn.
Police are waiting for heavy lifting machinery to arrive today, to clear the road.
The road is likely to be closed for a long period and motorists are advised to use the diversions which have been set up.
