Wind turbines will ruin the Adirondacks

Credit:  Opinion: Wind turbines will ruin the Adirondacks, says Parishville resident | North Country Now | January 11, 2017 | northcountrynow.com ~~

The North Country is known around the world for its breathtaking views of the Adirondacks and valleys. A gift from God.

The proposed 500 foot high wind turbines will forever scar the landscape and views of the beautiful Adirondacks.

The North Country and Adirondacks are known for beautiful birds, raptors, bald eagles, bats, and many other wildlife. The bald eagle is our national symbol, and wind turbines kill these beautiful endangered birds.

The North Country is known for weather extremes, such as microbursts of extremely high winds that do a lot of damage. When a microburst hits a wind turbine, it can break the blades of the turbine and debris can travel a quarter mile or more.

The North Country is known for its ice storms. Wind turbines hurl ice up to 3,000 feet. The turbines are also very loud, and the noise is disturbing.

The North Country is known for beautiful forests. Thousands upon thousands of our trees will be cut down to create access roads to construct and maintain just the initial 40 turbines. The trees provide oxygen, better air quality, water and soil conservation and habitat for wildlife. Much of the earth around the turbines would be covered with cement and power lines, if we trade our environment for turbines.

Pause and think. Are wind turbines worth the risk to health, death or injury of our children, grandchildren, family, friends, wildlife and environment? Are they worth forever scaring the Adirondacks, all gifts from God.

Money and big business have blinded people to the reality of the wind turbines. Wake up and see the future you are going to ruin with death and destruction, and forever ruin the Adirondack and Seaway Valley for money!
