Decision delayed yet again on huge Kildare wind farm

A decision on Kildare’s first ever wind farm has been postponed again to October 21.

Element Power wants to build the 47-turbine Maighne Wind Farm and an electricity substation up the west side of the county, from townlands near Rathangan, Allenwood, up towards Donadea, Johnstownbridge and Enfield.

One turbine would be located over the Meath border. The turbines would be 167 metres high – the highest ever turbines in Ireland.

A decision had been anticipated in April, then July, September and now October.

The fact that the board asked for further information in relation to one of the turbine’s proximity to the explosives factory in Enfield has resulted in further considerations.

Other legal implications may also be a factor in the delay given the high number of judical review court cases taken against An Bord Pleanála grants of wind farm approval.
