RES will not appeal refusal of proposed wind farm at Woolfox Airfield

Renewable energy firm RES has announced today (Monday, June 20) that it will not be appealing the decision by Rutland County Council to refuse planning permission for its proposed wind farm at the former Woolfox Lodge Airfield, near Stretton.

Rutland County Council refused permission for the wind farm in December. The nine turbine wind farm would have formed part of a new renewable energy hub at the former airfield and would have generated renewable energy for around 13,000 homes each year.

Andrew Adams, RES development manager, said: “RES is disappointed that we cannot proceed with a wind farm at this location. We would like to thank everyone who participated in, and supported the project, during the consultation process.”

The planning consent granted in March 2016 for a solar farm on the Woolfox site remains in place, and RES is currently considering how and when this could be delivered.

The plans attracted strong local opposition from villagers across Clipsham, Pickworth and the surrounding area. Planning officers recommended that Rutland county councillors refuse to grant planning permission because of the impact the turbines would have on the landscape and local heritage. Councillors refused permission during a special meeting at Rutland County Museum.
