PSC approves $2.44 MDU bill Increase

Last week Montana-Dakota Utilities announced that because of lower natural gas prices, customers would see a decrease of about $14 on their heating bill.

Today comes word of an increase, but for a different reason.

The Public Service Commission has approved an increase that will amount to about $2.44 cents on an average MDU bill.

It’s to help recovering costs for the Thunder Spirit Wind Farm in Hettinger.

“The actual cost increase is about $6.36, but its offset by a decrease in fuel of about $3.92, so that’s why you get the net difference of $2.44 a month,” said Brian Kalk, Public Service Commission.

“So we’ve analyzed that pretty thoroughly the cost and how it compares to other resources out there and this is a pretty affordable resource addition,” said Julie Fedorchak, Public Service Commission.

This increase will be outlined on the next bill.
