Meeting held on proposed Dan’s Mountain wind farm

The first of what is expected to be three days of hearings of the Allegany County Board of Zoning Appeals on a wind farm project planned for Dan’s Mountain was held Tuesday at the Allegany County Fairgrounds. The hearing will decide on the developer’s request for a special exception and variances from current county zoning regulations. If the board denies the requests, the $110 million project would be dead. The wind farm consisting of 17 turbines is being proposed by Dans Mountain Wind Force LLC. Opponents have said they are concerned about the viewshed, noise, electromagnetic interference and other issues. John Gontrum is an attorney for U.S. Wind Force and attorney Matthew Gilmore is representing some of the landowners who oppose the project. One of the initial points of contention centered on whether or not adequate notice about the project had been provided to the property owners- and that the information residents are being asked to base decisions on are too complex and convoluted….
