PENDLETON, Ore. – The Umatilla County Board of Commissioners has formally declared its opposition to the Wheatridge wind farm proposed for Morrow County and a small section of Umatilla County. Chairman George Murdock says it’s not the wind farm itself that worries the commissioners.
“The biggest concern we have, of course, is the route of the proposed transmission line,” he said. “We’ve been told it will be in Morrow County, but there are some potential drawings that show some of it in Umatilla County.”
A transmission line in that part of the county is something the commissioners strongly oppose.
“In that particular area, there is some very, very valuable, productive farm ground,” he said. “We’re working with area farmers to help reduce any impact on that high-value farmland.”
The county has notified the appropriate authorities of its opposition which was formally approved at a business meeting last week.
