A costly mistake

I trust the board of selectmen will acknowledge that Falmouth made a serious mistake when erecting the 1.65-megawatt wind turbines too large and too close to residences.
In 2012 Town Meeting, recognizing the consequences of this action, passed the bylaw limiting turbines to 250 kilowatts (no more megawatts!). This bylaw should be a guide to accepting the court’s finding.
Wind energy is a wonderful source of clean energy when properly placed in wide-open spaces such as deserts, prairies, and at sea. However, because of misguided support from the commonwealth (Governor Patrick), the Falmouth Energy Committee and others, Falmouth failed to heed the key role of location.
It was not support for Winds 1 and 2 that resulted in the negative vote to remove them but simply the cost to taxpayers. If no technology exists to correct the faults of Winds 1 and 2, we need to take them down regardless of cost.
