Turbine blades give Ballindaggin couple hell

A couple living close to giant wind turbines in Ballindaggin have called for an enquiry into how Wexford County Council has treated them. Philip and Catherine Hickey’s home in the townland of Ballylusk is within a kilometre of one of the windmills in the foothills of the Blackstairs.

They have repeatedly complained that the turning of the giant blades creates a noise which disturbs their lives. The couple do not enjoy being in their garden because of the constant disturbance created by the nearby windfarm.

And they have come close to breaking point in recent days because of the ‘shadow flicker’ affecting their house. The unsettling flicker is created when the sun shines through the rotating arms of the windmill. The problem showed up again on Sunday, November 23 when it began at 9.23 and continued until 9.40 a.m.

Philip Hickey noted it then resumed at 11 a.m. for a further 20 minutes, at which point the turbine was turned off. The couple claim they are victims of bad planning.
