Willmar Municipal Utilities south wind turbine was shut down at approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday due to component failure within the rotor hub, said Jon Folkedahl, supervisor of electrical production at Willmar Municipal Utilities.
He said a technical crew from turbine manufacturer DeWind is en route to evaluate the problem and arrange for necessary repairs.
The south turbine was last out of service for about two weeks in January after a gear pump motor required replacing by DeWind.
The south wind turbine is one of two turbines that were constructed north of Willmar Senior High School and commissioned on Sept. 3, 2009.
The warranty – originally for three years and extended for another two years – expires Sept. 6, 2014.
