A New Jersey electric-power developer’s $42-million nine wind-turbine farm will be located adjacent to U.S. Highway 71 2 miles northeast of Templeton, a company spokesman said Wednesday.

The turbines, together forming a 20-megawatt project, will involve contracts with 10 parcels of land – nine for the turbines and one for a related electrical substation, said Michael Kinney, a spokesman for NJR Clean Energy Ventures, the unregulated distributed power subsidiary of Wall, N.J-based New Jersey Resources.

Kinney said his company has 20-year leases (with a five-year options after that) for placement of the project – known as the Carroll Area Wind Farm – with landowners. He did not disclose any more details on the lease arrangements.

The project is expected to be operational by spring of 2015.

New Jersey Clean Energy Ventures acquired the shovel-ready Carroll Area wind farm project from OwnEnergy Inc., a Brooklyn, N.Y.-based developer of midsize and community wind projects. It will be the second wind farm project purchased from OwnEnergy; the first was the Montana-based Two Dot wind farm in 2013.

Kinney said the New Jersey developer is eyeing more wind energy but has no immediate plans for turbines in the Carroll area.

The energy produced at the wind farm will be sold through a 25-year power purchase agreement with MidAmerican Energy, Iowa’s largest energy company. MidAmerican is owned by Berkshire Hathaway Inc.

According to OwnEnergy’s website, the Carroll Area Wind Farm began development as a “community” project in 2003. OwnEnergy became involved in the project in 2011.
