Truro protest organised against solar and wind farms

A protest has been organised by residents fed up with the “proliferation” of wind and solar farms across Cornwall.
Organised by Cornwall Protect, protestors will gather outside Truro Cathedral on Saturday October 19.
The group say giant turbines, such as the one planned for Ventongimps, spoil the beautiful Cornish landscape.
Around 10 local campaign groups will join Cornwall Protect at the demonstration.
Danny Mageean from Cornwall Protect said: “Time and again it is being left to local communities to point out the major deficiencies in planning applications.
“Time again the Design and Access Statement doesn’t provide the basic information required. So called “environmental statements” contain totally inadequate assessments of landscape and visual impact, and meaningless superficial comments about ecology and biodiversity.
“The issues involved are far too important to allow this situation to continue.
“The impact of Cornwall’s green agenda has minimal impact on harmful emissions, the most obvious legacy being the fossil fuelled power stations being built in Plymouth to manage the vagaries of wind and solar electricity produced in Cornwall.
“Cornwall’s green agenda helps the Government meet renewable energy targets but does nothing to actually address the real issue of replacing conventional power stations.”
All are invited to join in the protest, which will meet under the A39 underpass near Marks and Spencer and head off to the Cathedral at 11.00am.
