Plans for Kildare anti-wind farm campaign

The Kildare campaign against wind turbines steps up a gear next week with the formation of an action group in Kildangan.
A second public meeting has been organised for September 4 at Kildangan Hall to form a committee to fight Element Power’s Greenwire plans to construct 750 wind turbines across the midlands including locations in Kildare and Kildangan.
The 160 people, who attended the meeting on August 14, facilitated by the Kildangan Community Development Association (KCDA), will be contacted. Any other interested parties can also attend. Seamus Kearns said; “There has been a huge reaction,” he said.
“We have asked Greenwire to tell us exactly where the turbines will be located. At the moment, there are only vague details on their map.”
He said the new committee would be working with the Lakelands Wind Farm Information Group from Westmeath and the Vicarstown/Ballybrittas group. The Westmeath group said turbines will reduce property values, pose health risks and threaten Kildare’s thoroughbred industry. Element Power refuted those claims, branding the comments “misleading” and accused the group of “scaremongering”. Element Power CEO Tim Cowhig said there is a major opportunity for economic recovery through wind energy exportation. The company said thousands of people live beside wind turbines all over the world without any problems.
