Newhaven wind farm plan to be examined by the secretary of state

The E.ON application for a wind farm offshore between Newhaven and Shoreham has been accepted for examination by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.
With offshore and onshore electrical infrastructure including a cable route from the coast to a new substation near the existing Bolney Substation in Mid Sussex, the scheme with a generating capacity of 700MW was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate on March 1.
The inspectorate said the decision to accept the application to proceed was made in accordance with section 55 of the Planning Act 2008 (as amended by the Localism Act 2011).
When considering whether or not to accept an application for examination, the Secretary of State looks at the application documents submitted, whether consultation representations received from local authorities are adequate and the extent to which the developer has had regard to any guidance issued.
Other matters will be considered later by the Examining Authority and interested parties will have an opportunity take part in that process and make representations if they wish.
They can agree or disagree with the application, comment on what other people said, attend a Preliminary Meeting and say how they think the application should be examined, request an open floor hearing is held or attend and request to speak at open floor or issue-specific hearings.

Sir Michael Pitt, Chief Executive, Planning Inspectorate, said: “After careful consideration we have decided on behalf of the Secretary of State the application submitted by E.ON Climate and Renewables met the required tests set out in the legislation to be accepted for examination.
“The applicant must now decide when to publicise the fact its application has been accepted to proceed to examination and announce when members of the public will be able to register with the Planning Inspectorate as an interested party in the application.”
Registration will be online at www.planningportal.gov.uk/infrastructure by visiting the project’s page and completing the online ‘Registration and Relevant Representation form’.
