Increased wind farm setback proposed

AUBURN – The DeKalb County Commissioners will petition to amend the county’s wind energy system ordinance to increase the setback from a wind turbine to a property line from 400 feet to 1,300 feet.
The commissioners agreed that a 1,300-foot setback – an “industry standard,” according to Commissioner Don Grogg – is an appropriate distance to maintain public safety. The ordinance already requires a setback of 1,500 feet from a residence, which should remain, the commissioners voted.
