Turbine plan put ‘on hold’

Plans for a 39 metre high wind turbine near Chipping have been withdrawn.

But protesters remain on their guard as the plans are likely to be back soon.

The would-be developers say they have withdrawn the plans to allow more time to look into issues raised by the Ministry of Defence.

The MoD is worried about the impact of the proposed turbine on the air traffic radar at BAE Systems plant at Warton.

An email from the developer’s agent to Mr Simon Hulme, one of the protesters, says as well as addressing the MoD’s concerns further surveys will be commissioned.

It adds: “I envisage that the application will be resubmitted in the very near future.”

Among the objectors is Bowland Forest Gliding Club, which is based at
Chipping.

Joining the protest has been Ribble Valley’s Conservative MP Nigel Evans

He told opponents: “Chipping is an area of outstanding beauty and I wholeheartedly back your opposition to this wind turbine application.

“I have always voiced my opposition to wind turbines, particularly in rural areas and areas of outstanding natural beauty”.

Lancashire County Council has submitted a report which protesters say re-enforces the special nature of the site of the proposed turbine – confirming that it is within an important ornithological area.
