Landfill turbine looking doubtful

Plans to erect a wind turbine at a former landfill site on the outskirts of Aberdeen could be rejected by city councillors next week.
Planning officials have recommended they do not give consent for green energy scheme at Tarbothill, off the Aberdeen to Balmedie stretch of the A90 near Blackdog.
The application for the 91ft structure from FCC Environment is for an area of land no longer used for waste disposal.
A report to the development management sub-committee says that 11 letters of objection have been submitted by residents.
Belhelvie Community Council, which covers an area close to the city boundary, has voiced its opposition to the scheme.
Among the concerns raised are that the development would have an adverse visual impact, and could have implications for Ministry of Defence (MoD) radar systems and, as a result, air traffic safety.
In an evaluation of the application, the council’s head of planning, Margaret Bochel, says that Scottish Government and local planning policy support wind energy developments in principle.
But she says the turbine would represent an “unacceptable interference” to MoD radar at RAF Buchan, and adds that the applicant has so far not provided any solution to the problem.
