Coastal turbines bring objections

Campaigners will be leafleting villagers today as part of efforts to stop two wind turbines which they claim will spoil views on a protected headland.
They are objecting to plans for the 110ft turbines near the village of Speeton, in North Yorkshire, by Bridlington leisure and tourism operator David Allison.
Campaigner David Hinde said the plans would introduce two “visually intrusive and wholly inappropriate industrial structures” to the Flamborough Heritage Coast.
He said: “Nobody in Speeton village knows about this. The Heritage Coast villages will be fighting it all the way, as we have previous applications in Bempton and Flamborough.”
The same applicant withdrew a similar twin turbine scheme at Short Lane, Bempton, last Friday, after an MoD objection to the impact on the radar at RAF Staxton Wold.
Agents Earthmill Ltd said small-scale projects were often confused with commercial-scale projects “which rarely benefit the local community and have much greater impact on a widespread area”. They added: “Small-scale turbines such as this project connect directly into the local network and are supplied, owned and operated by a local business.”
