Lobby group states case against wind farm

A Mid-Murray group lobbying against the proposed Keyneton wind farm will use an independent expert assessment to argue against the development.
The Eastern Mount Lofty Ranges Landscape Guardians will submit its report to the Development Assessment Commission today.
The group’s chairman, Tony Walker, says the submission will cover the social, economic and environmental impacts of wind farms.
Mr Walker says Pacific Hydro’s wind farm proposal relies on statements by the National Health and Medical Research Council – which may not be accurate.
“Brett Horner, the Canadian, has actually done an audit of the references cited in both those documents [and] found that there is a lot of selective citing of references and that some of the references appear to not support the arguments that they’re reported to support,” he said.
Mr Walker says its submission will include the assessment by Mr Horner and a number of testimonials.
“In actual fact, there’s people who are hosts, who are actually making money from the turbine who recognise they caused issues and they’re publicly making statements saying these things are no good, they’re too close and they’re causing problems,” he said.
The Development Assessment Commission will have two to three months to consider the submissions, before making recommendations to the Minister.
