A Syracuse firm has been awarded a $6 million contract by New York Power Authority trustees to design and build a large-scale wind power system at SUNY Canton.
The first phase of the project allows Northland Associates to draft the design of the wind project and seek the necessary permits to have several wind turbines located on campus.
Once that process is finalized, the Syracuse firm would then undertake the actual construction phase.
The project would allow the college to become more energy efficient using green power.
Meanwhile the NYPA trustees authorized allocations of three megawatts of power to six North Country industries through the ReCharge New York program.
Key recipients included R.T. Vanderbilt Company in Gouverneur, Jain Irrigation of watertown and HP Hood of Larfargeville.
