Turbine troubles are ‘tearing village apart’

A Llŷn village is being torn apart by plans to build a wind turbine, with claims this week that protesters’ posters are being torn down.

A group of objectors in Llanaelhaearn are fighting plans by community group Antur Aelhaearn to build a 67-metre wind turbine near the village and have erected posters throughout the area.

A number of residents have placed anti-wind turbine signs around the village, but according to resident Steve Dorling, signs are being taken down once they are displayed.

Hitting out at Antur Aelhaearn, he said: “Our village is being torn apart at the moment. The plans for the wind turbine in the village have been ongoing for two years now, but we have only recently heard about the plans. “We need to know what type of benefits it will bring to the area, at the moment I don’t see any.

Antur Aelhaearn is determined to keep their plans low key, they don’t want anything to jeopardise them. “This is why the signs around the village are being mysteriously taken down. “We should have the right to oppose the wind turbine plans, it’s not right that our signs are being taken down.”

Antur Aelhaearn declined to comment.
