Selectmen vote 3-2 to put wind turbine on Town Meeting warrant

In an emotional debate over the proposed wind turbine at the Madaket landfill, the Board of Selectmen got an earful from both sides last night before narrowly approving a motion to put the question before voters at the 2012 Annual Town Meeting in March.
More than a hundred island residents, seasonal homeowners and even some who traveled from Cape Cod to attend the hearing packed themselves into the public meeting room at the Nantucket police station in a standing-room-only affair and witnessed a rollicking discussion about the merits of the turbine project. Cars filled the parking lot at the police station and spilled out onto the side of Fairgrounds Road in either direction.
