Orangeville: Stout leads May by six votes after absentee count

ORANGEVILLE – Absentee ballots were counted Thursday morning, giving challenger Gerald Stout a six-vote lead in the race for town supervisor.
Stout, former Wyoming County district attorney, and incumbent Supervisor Susan May were tied at 280 votes each after Tuesday’s elections.
Board of Elections officials counted 28 absentee ballots.
Stout received 17 votes and May got 11 votes, elections officials said.
The results, however, are still unofficial. All of the ballots, both absentee and ones cast Tuesday, will be recounted Wednesday.
May had received both the Republican and Democratic endorsements in September primaries, and also ran on the Taxpayers First ticket. Stout ran on the Reunite Orangeville line.
Stout entered the race for supervisor late, in August when he filed an independent petition with the Board of Elections.
The race has been hotly contested, with the controversial Stony Creek Wind Farm proving a major issue among residents.
The Town Board has approved the wind farm. Stout is opposed to the project.
