Gov. Deval Patrick is a greenwashed pandering pol who is leading his state down the wrong road (“Patrick dismisses clean energy setbacks,” Nov. 1). It is always bad public policy for government to pick winners and losers, and wind power is a big loser. It is nothing but a scam to rake in taxpayer subsidies and sell Enron-inspired renewable energy certificates.
Massachusetts should not allow passage of the statute to expedite wind-power permitting. It is a colossal mistake made in Maine, where it has unleashed the destruction of miles of ridgeline for the folly of intermittent wind power at 25 percent capacity factor. It also is leading ratepayers in ISO-New England to pay for up to $35 billion in transmission costs.
