Turbine plans ‘will kill area’

Worried villagers have vowed to battle plans to erect four turbines which they say would “desecrate” the local green belt.
More than 200 residents packed into a public meeting at Walmer Bridge Village Hall about the proposals. The meeting was so popular some villagers were left locked outside.
And they insist the project will devalue local properties, destroy people’s views and cause health problems.
Landowner Harry Sutton wants to build four turbines on land in Wham Lane, which will generate enough electricity to power four farms.
One resident, David Roper, said: “Health experts around the world have identified real health issues with wind turbines.
“The Institute of Chartered Surveyors has produced evidence that (house) values drop between 5% and 50% in the vicinity of wind turbines.”
At one stage of the meeting another resident, David Farrell, produced scale models of St Andrew’s Church at Leyland, which showed one of the turbines “towering over” it.
But applicant Mr Sutton, who was also at the meeting, has said the power generated will make his land “more than self-sufficient” and will contribute to the environment too.
The plan is due to be considered by South Ribble Council on October 12.
