A third large wind farm in northeastern North Carolina has been announced for Beaufort County.
Invenergy plans to construct 49 wind turbines on 11,000 acres near the town of Pantego, about 20 miles east of Washington, said company spokeswoman Alyssa Krinsky.
This is the second wind project in the region for Chicaco-based Invenergy. The company plans to build a wind farm of more than 100 turbines on thousands of remote farm land in Camden County, known as Hales Lake. In Pasquotank and Perquimans counties, Atlantic Winds LLC, a subsidiary of Iberdrola Renewables, plans to build up to 150 turbines on 20,000 acres.
The Pantego Wind Energy Center would produce 80 megawatts of electricity, enough to power more than 15,000 homes, Krinsky said.
