RED WING – And the seemingly never-ending battle to erect wind turbines in Goodhue County continues.
Before an overflow crowd of about 70 people, the Goodhue County Board voted Tuesday to petition for reconsideration of the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission’s decision to issue a site permit to the controversial 78-megawatt AWA Goodhue wind project. Commissioner Dan Rechtzigel was the only commissioner to cast a dissenting vote on the five-member board.
The PUC finally issued a site permit to AWA Goodhue in June to end an unprecedented 20-month process; most wind projects are approved in 6-12 months. Tuesday’s decision reopens the debate at least one more time. Find out what’s next in Wednesday’s print edition.
